Five things to do in Val Thorens this winter
Things to do in Val Thorens
Val Thorens, Europe's highest ski resort, is a winter paradise nestled in the French Alps. Famous for its world-class skiing, the resort offers an expansive network of slopes catering to all skill levels. Beyond skiing, visitors can indulge in snowboarding, ice climbing, and snowshoeing for a full alpine experience. For thrill-seekers, snowmobiling and tobogganing are must-try activities, while après-ski options like the lively La Folie Douce provide unbeatable entertainment. The breathtaking panoramic views, excellent dining, and wellness spas round out the top things to do in Val Thorens during winter.
Take in the view
Val Thorens is a place where your Instagram will work overtime to record the many stunning views. One of the best can be found at Cime Caron based at a heady 3,200m. Take the Cime Caron bubble to reach this vantage point, climb a little more then simply sit down and take it all in. Below you the Belleville and Maurienne valleys stretch out in all their glory. You might feel a little small in this epic universe but your heart will grow at the sheer beauty of the spectacle.
Picnic at the top of the world
Ride The Funitel Péclet to the top of the Val Thorens Valley and toast the sunset at 3,000m. The journey itself is remarkable with the lift’s huge windows opening up the landscape around you and creating a canvas of white perfection. It only takes ten minutes to arrive and find yourself staring in awe at the glacier below. Do justice to the moment by breaking open a bottle of wine and a hamper created from the area’s local specialities. Then just sit and soak in a memory that will cheer up humdrum moments for years to come.
Zipline to paradise
Not just one but two. Two of the longest, fastest and most exhilarating ziplines in the world can be found at Val Thorens. In 2014, the ride from the top of the Orelle resort was opened offering a two minute flight and speeds of over 100 km/h. An even longer line was opened four years later offering double the fun and the chance to race your friends to the bottom. For a dose of welcome holiday fear and bursts of sheer adrenaline, there’s little to match this death-defying experience.
Relax and unwind
While the slopes of Val Thorens are undeniably breathtaking, and the sporting activities nothing short of thrilling, why not take a break and just indulge yourself for a moment? One of the best ways to escape the chill or give your aching muscles some TLC is a trip to our Wellness Centre. Stocked with luxurious CARITA products and treatments, you can lose yourself in a relaxing massage, pamper your extremities with a hand and foot treatment, delight your chilly skin with a facial, and much more.
Wine and dine
There is no shortage of places to eat and drink in the cosy atmosphere of the Val Thorens resort. On one hand, you can tantalise your taste buds in our main restaurant, with a buffet bursting with authentic mountain cuisine. On the other, you can indulge your every gastronomic desire with dinner in the Gourmet Lounge, before retiring for a tipple in one of our intimate bars. If Michelin stars are your thing (and they’re certainly our thing) then we’d heartily recommend the local l’Epicurean for the sheer quality of its food, the daily changing menu and the refined wine list.
