Overall positive experience, but geared towards younger families in the summer!

Just returned from a five day stay at Club Med with our family of four, and I would recommend it with some reservations. Our room was clean and beautiful and having access to the 8th floor lounge was worth it. My sons are almost 18 and almost 21, so even though we were a family we were a bit surprised about how kid oriented the whole resort was. I read the reviews, so I warned them there would be a lot of kids but we were still surprised how everything in the restaurant and theater centered on young children. We had only been to an adult club med property before, so that could explain some of the surprise. The shows were kid centered and when my 20 year old son and I went to aerial circus lessons, we quickly realized it was not meant for us! There were also hamburgers, fries and chicken fingers at almost every meal. Not a bad thing but lots of little people running underneath and kids touching food on the 8th floor. My spouse and I both said if the kids were younger it would have been an ideal family trip.

Loved the hiking and biking options. Our one son has a disability and the guide was patient and encouraging. He was unable to go biking, so I convinced him to go to a nutrition workshop. The workshop was only in French and that was not indicated for that workshop, though it was for others. We were in Quebec which we know is French, but the language was a barrier a few times. With so little for my one son that was a bit of a bummer. Even for my husband and I, we struggled with a guide and some classes that were primarily in French (again, not a surprise being in a French speaking Provence, but it would have been good to know). The temperature was beautiful. There was some rain. There wasn’t a ton to do if you don’t want to hike or bike all day, but we would consider going again. It is vacation and having an open bar and time to sit and relax in a beautiful setting was enjoyable.

Staff- the check in process was weird. Once they found out we were exclusive we were put in an empty room alone. There was a fridge but nothing was in it. We were then taken upstairs and given an overview but it was hard to understand. A written list of benefits may have been helpful. Some staff members were great, but except for one or two individuals we did not feel like the 8th floor staff was overly accommodating. It took a long time to get drinks, and with the exception of two individuals we were not asked for refills. The service at the main bar was much faster. The hiking and biking guides were good. The one guide was great with my disabled son. When we left they texted us asking when we were leaving. We shared we left already. They did not respond. Not a great last impression.

Final thoughts- if you have young kids and want some down time while they are in kids camp it’s a great place. It’s also great for people who love hiking and mountain biking. With one restaurant and all the littles probably not ideal if you want more of a party atmosphere. However with the beautiful scenery and the all inclusive aspect, we would probably go again for a shorter stay.

Absolutely FANTASTIC stay at club med Charlevoix in the last week of June thanks to the amazing staff of the baby and mini club (Marine, Ana, Kassandra, Béatrice, Roman and Gaelle) as well as the staff of the kids club (Arthur, Zac, Opale, Bastien, Mikael and Salif) who took such great care of our 3 young boys that they have been asking multiple times a day to go back to kids club ever since we left. As always, the food is phenomenal! Thank you Club Med Charlevoix for yet again a flawless and memorable vacation. We will be back soon!
