Overall, a beautiful resort — but one dangerous experience ruined a day of my trip
I stayed at Club Med Martinique (April 6–12, 2025) and overall had a good experience. The food was excellent, activities were varied, and most staff were helpful. As a solo traveler recovering from a major health issue, I was grateful for the chance to relax and still stay active — I loved the padel, snorkeling, and jet skiing.
However, one experience left me shaken. I joined the “Big Walk” excursion, trusting the guide who said it was mostly flat and shaded. I’m an experienced hiker, but it was a mistake on my part to attempt it while still in recovery and in the heat. The choice to go was entirely my mistake. What happened next was entirely the fault of the staff’s lack of judgement, care and basic compassion. By the mid point of the walk, I became visibly ill. Other hikers commented on my pale complexion despite the high heat. The guides were dismissive and flat out refused to help me access the transport that was clearly available. I felt trapped and increasingly unwell. Only when a nurse from the group intervened did they take it seriously — and suddenly, there was room in the car to take me back to the resort.
I lost a full day to heat exhaustion. Had I been forced to walk back, I would have ended up in the hospital. This was a serious failure in safety and judgment. Club Med needs to do better.
