Marbella In the Spotlight
Marbella Highlight's
Tucked along the golden coast of Southern Spain in the foothills of the Sierra Blanca, Marbella is the jewel in the crown of beautiful Andalusia.
Famed for its gilded beaches, glittering marinas playing host to the world’s most luxurious yachts, and the ‘Golden Mile’ of extravagant clubs, Michelin-starred restaurants and shining hotels, you’d be forgiven for thinking Marbella was just another glamorous playground for the rich and famous. But this elegant Mediterranean treasure is so much more than just a party town.
Discover the old-world charm of Marbella’s Old town
Enjoy life at a slower pace at one of Marbella’s points of interest: the historic old town. Labyrinthine streets of white-washed buildings with terracotta roofs and window sills dotted with flowers cluster around pretty town squares, creating the perfect sun traps for enjoying an afternoon glass of Tempranillo.
Sit out under the fragrant orange trees of the beautiful Plaza de los Naranjos, discover beautiful Spanish trinkets and authentic arts and crafts in the little stores and boutiques that line the crazy-paved streets, or take a turn round the exotic gardens of La Alameda Park with its lush canopies, elegant fountains and colourful benches decorated with traditional Andalusian tiles. This is the place to unwind, find the perfect souvenirs, and soak up the laid-back culture of Southern Spain.
Go hunting for original Dalí sculptures
Stroll along the tree-lined walkway of the Avenida del Mar, just a short walk from La Alameda Park, and art-lovers will discover a truly exciting surprise. This beautiful avenue, otherwise known as ‘Dalí Alley’, is home to several bronze statues designed by Salvador Dalí himself.
The great 20th century surrealist used to visit Marbella on holiday and presented five of his sculptures to the city so that anyone could enjoy them day or night, including the Elefante cósmico and the Gala Gradiva, titled after his wife’s nickname. Dalí enthusiasts will also find his sculpture, Rhinoceros Dressed in Lace, at the entrance of the luxurious Puerto Banus greeting the marina’s guests.
Eat out and delight your taste buds
Savour delectable new flavours and taste sensations from Michelin-star cuisine to authentic Spanish tapas. Marbella is perfect for discovering your new favourite dish. Some of the best restaurants on the Costa del Sol can be found in the city, serving a mix of international dishes and local recipes of fish, seafood and paella.
Go to the historic Old Town for a mix of authentic Spanish tapas and fine dining, with a chance to spot a flamenco show while you eat. Head down to the coast for more relaxed beach fare such as espetos: skewered sardines grilled over a wood fire – a local favourite. Cool off in the heat with a fresh bowl of chilled gazpacho made from local tomatoes and vegetables, or with a Malaga-style salad of potatoes, cod, tomatoes and peppers with a good drizzle of olive oil. Or head outside of the city for a relaxed wine tour complete with a rustic vineyard lunch. Iqué aproveche!
Go on an adventure in the Sierra Blanca foothills
The Sierra Blanca mountains are more than just a beautiful backdrop to Marbella’s beautiful coastline. These Andalusian foothills are home to plenty of outdoor activities and adrenaline-seekers will find plenty to love in Marbella’s open countryside.
Take a 4x4 tour of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park and hand feed wild deer, or venture out to the villages of Istan and Ojén and eat fresh oranges straight from the tree. Raise your heart rate and go canyoning in the Angosturas Gorge and explore secret caves, waterfalls and thrilling jumps into cool mountain waters. Or follow the hiking trail up to the peak of La Concha and enjoy the most spectacular views Marbella has to offer.
Enjoy beach life the way you like it
Marbella’s beaches are blessed with over 16 miles of golden sandy coastline. However, it’s not just the coveted Blue Flag status or the endless ocean views that make Marbella a classic holiday destination. It’s the sheer variety of beaches that make it a must-visit for travellers.
Stroll along the palm tree lined Paseo Marítimo promenade and take in glorious views of the Spanish sunset. Sip an ice-cold beer and watch the waves at a chiringuitos beach bar in Cabopino. Soak up the glorious Marbella weather at the popular El Faro, Venus or la Fontanilla beaches. Let the kids run wild on an assault course floating on the sea at Costa Water Park. Go celebrity spotting at Puerto Banus or, if you’re looking for a little more excitement, you can join the lively beach clubs at Nikki Beach for some fun in the sun.
